Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

SummaryText

This blog is part of WITNESS’ aggregation of campaigns and video advocacy on gender-based violence (GBV). It was assembled during the 16 Days against GBV worldwide campaign. The blog gives examples of campaigning and materials available for gender advocates, citizen journalists, citizen filmmakers, professional journalists, and others who are in support of preventing GBV and advocating for survivors of  GBV.

The selection includes staff picks from the WITNESS staff, a TED talk by a domestic abuse survivor, reflections from WITNESS work on GBV in Kenya, links to English and French versions of the new how-to guide for interviewing survivors of sexual and GBV, information on WorldPulse’s Citizen Journalism Program, a link to a blog entitled: "How You Can Support Immigrant Women Survivors of Gender-Based Violence", a link to a new video series for how to conduct interviews with survivors of sexual and GBV, and a link to the India Breakthrough campaign for men called #BeThatGuy.
