Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

The Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria has opened its Round 11 call for proposals. The Round 11 disease proposal form has been restructured to improve the flow of information requested in the application. The proposal form now has been divided into 8 distinct sections:

  1. Applicant Info and Funding Summary
  2. Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM) Eligibility Requirements
  3. Country Context (consolidates all contextual background information)
  4. Proposal Summary
  5. Monitoring and Evaluation
  6. Pharmaceutical and Other Health Products
  7. Funding Request
  8. Management Strategies (public relations (PR)/SR-related information)
    • Mainstreaming of policy questions
    • Addition of a 'Priority Interventions' table to clearly identify priority interventions targeted in the proposal.
    • New/improved tools to help applicants with consolidated disease proposals
    • New measures to help smooth the transition to grant signing.
Application Info

To assist applicants that have existing Global Fund grants in completing their Round 11 consolidated proposal(s), an Applicant Disease Profile is included when the proposal form and guidelines are downloaded from the Global Fund website. This profile contains financial and programmatic information for each disease for which an applicant has existing grants, with separate profiles for each disease.

The Board has approved a new policy on eligibility criteria, counterpart financing requirements, and prioritisation of proposals for funding. Here are some resources to assist applicants:
