Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

The "Switch": Communication Perspectives

As countries work through the polio switch from trivalent OPV (tOPV) to bivalent OPV (bOPV), removing the type 2 what is your feedback on the communication strategy and process associated with that switch? What is going well? What are the challenges? What are we learning for polio? And, more broadly, what are we learning and/or what are the implications for improved routine immunization? Many thanks for sharing your perspectives and insights in support of everyone's work. Warren

Switch from tOPV to bOVE is really a milestone. But still it has not been well communicated. I saw a report on BBC Urdu mentioning that a new polio vaccine has been invinted. Although we know there is no new invention but its just a switch to bOPV.

I would suggest rather than keeping the switch at a low profile, this would have been far better having a comprehensive communication and media plan for the switch. The reason is that working in an area like Pakistan and Afghanistan, its not easy to repair an issue. This could have been much easier to announce the switch and the reasons.
