Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at lainiciativadecomunicacion.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

  • Climate and environment
  • Conflict and peacebuilding

  • Discrimination and inclusion
  • Food and livelihoods
  • Health and HIV
  • Influencing decision makers
  • Migration and trafficking

The online resource includes information sheets, activities, Bible studies and good practice guides. "Reveal tools can be used to support a church and community mobilisation (CCM) process or to support other community development work."

Sections are described as the following:
"Section A: Revealing hidden issues - Tools to help you raise and explore hidden issues with communities. Issues are hidden because nobody talks about them, or because people do not understand them."
Information for facilitators and activities are available, for example, a drama on child marriage that includes not only the script but sections on why to use the activity, what you need, what to do, and discussion questions.

"Section B: Revealing the Bible - Bible studies on the issues covered in Reveal." These are available in PDF format to download and use with a group for Bible studies and prayer.

"Section C: Revealing guidance and support for action - Guidance on different ways of working and good practice guides for projects and actions." These include ways of taking action using good practice guidelines.
