Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

2009 Campaign Guidelines
SummaryText
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has launched a campaign on the novel H1N1 influenza called, "Best Defence." It includes a video, posters, and other materials that can be used by National Societies to help lessen the impact of H1N1 in the community.

This document is intended as a guideline to using and adapting the global communication campaign. It includes:
  • Campaign background - The issues that have led the IFRC to develop this campaign, and why the organisation believes that, by mobilising the Red Cross Red Crescent network, it can effectively address them.
  • Campaign - An overview of the campaign itself, explaining the messages contained in headlines, sub-headlines, and visuals, as well as the various media and language executions.
  • Campaign localisation - Considerations for promoting one's National Society through these materials, giving authority to the message at national and local levels.
  • Campaign design guidelines - A detailed look at each aspect of the campaign, noting elements that can be adapted for localisation.
