Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.
 
Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.
 
We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Summary of RFP

The goal of this Special Issue on “Understanding and Addressing Vaccine Hesitancy” is to examine the current state of knowledge concerning the causes, influences, and solutions to the growing problem of vaccine hesitancy in modern society. We are pleased to invite you to submit your scientific work related to vaccine hesitancy to seek vaccination for serious health problems such as COVID-19, childhood diseases, influenza, HPV, HIV/AIDS, and other important applications of immunization are welcomed. Topics may address problems with unequal participation in vaccination by key populations; the inequitable distribution of vaccines within and across nations; the negative influences of disinformation, misinformation, and conspiracy theories that lead to vaccine hesitancy; the issues of information avoidance, information overload, trust in science, effective programs, policies, and communication strategies for promoting and delivering necessary vaccinations; and related topics. We welcome the submission of research articles, reviews, commentaries, short scientific reports, experimental studies, survey research, case studies, textual analyses, ethnographies, clinical studies, and commentaries. The accepted papers will be part of the journal Vaccines and should fit the scope of the journal.
